Time cat 2008 analysis cutoffs

Time cat 2008 analysis cutoffs

The CAT sprung a surprise one more time – this time with ‘differential’ number of Qs in sections and a higher ‘weightage’ for the Verbal section. It would have taken students a little bit of time to figure out the ‘right’ time allocation strategy. The Quant was of a higher level of difficulty than last year. The Logic & DI section proved to be deceptive and thankfully the Verbal section was far less ‘ambiguous’ than last year.

The QA section would have given the jitters to most test takers today. The section was bereft of any ‘easy’ Qs and the ones that looked easy turned out to be quite deceptive. The QA section had numerous ‘higher math’ questions and Arithmetic Qs were difficult to find! This would have made this section quite a tough nut to crack for most students. The cut-off is expected to be around
17-19.

Time cat 2008 analysis and Logic & Data Interpretation cutoffs ( time4education )
The L&DI section of CAT2008 can be classified as a ‘Difficult’ paper. It was a classic as there was a mix of both Data Interpretation and Logic puzzles. Barring the set on the ‘arrangement of houses’ which was do-able all other sets were tricky to solve and students could have easily made a mistake or two. The set on ‘Share prices’ would have stumped anyone who dared to get into it. The cut-off is expected to be around
28-30

Time cat 2008 analysis and English - Verbal Section cutoffs ( time4education )
A sense of relief would be the first reaction of the students primarily because there was a reduction in the number of questions of ‘ambiguous’ nature. There were quite a few questions which were easy enough for well prepared students to get right. The RCs were easier to read and had quite a few direct questions. The Vocabulary based Qs were very difficult and demanded a very high level of varied reading. If you add the higher number of overall questions, there would be higher attempts and consequently a higher score. The cut-off is expected to be around 41-43.

CAT 2008 ANALYSIS by tcyonline on Rediff
CAT has always lived up to its expectation of springing a surprise every year in one aspect or the other. The surprise element this year was added emphasis on Verbal as a result of which the weight-age of verbal section was nearly 45%. However, for the ones with sound vocabulary and good grammatical range & accuracy would have faired well as reading comprehension was back to normal 5 questions per passage from 3 questions last year. Over all, CAT 2008 was characterized by a 20% increase in the total number of questions affected by a whooping 40% increase in questions from verbal section. Hence, it had an easier to moderate Quant section, a lengthier but manageable verbal section and a tough DI. CAT 2008 Quant and DI were similar to CAT 2007 with minimum surprises. Still, a few pleasant surprises were the questions on the pattern of past CATs. Most of the questions were answerable using options, substitution method and other unconventional techniques. The test makers have deliberately put many question styles and formats that had appeared in CAT 2004, 2005 & 2006. tcyonline predict a cut-off of around 128 for GD / PI calls from at least IIMs.

CAT 2008 Analysis of Verbal Section , Cutoffs by tcyonline on Rediff
CAT 2008 verbal was relatively easy, though lengthy. There were no FIJ questions to bother the test takers this year. Also there were virtually no surprises except an increase in verbal questions. The format of questions was known. Reading comprehension topped the list with maximum share in the total number of questions. Also, CAT 2008 witnessed approx. 30% lower words per question figure than the last year. Additionally, Word usage and EU were real time savers in the lot. tcyonline Experts predict a cut off of 40 for one IIM call and 45 for all 7 iim calls .

CAT 2008 Analysis of Quant Section , Cutoffs by tcyonline on Rediff
Quant was easier as compared to CAT 2007 as students witnessed the familiar question types and formats in CAT 2008. tcyonline experts assert that many questions were answerable using answer options; substitution method and other un-conventional techniques leading to cut offs for a sure IIM’s call. tcyonline experts predict a cut-off of around 25 correct questions for at least one IIM call.

CAT 2008 Analysis of LRDI , Cutoffs by tcyonline on Rediff
This was a difficult section for the test takers as stress was more on analytical reasoning questions than on the ones involving big calculations. We predict a cut-off of around 25 correct questions for at least one IIM call.

Career Launcher Cat 2008 analysis

Overall, the CAT 2008 paper was of a moderate difficulty level. The paper was more balanced than previous years, primarily because of more choices in the English section. There have been an increase in the total number of questions - from 75 to 90, with English section accounting for 40 questions (an increase of 15 from last year) and Quant and DI having 25 questions each.

The Quant section was less difficult than last two years, though not in an absolute sense.

DI, however, proved to be a tougher nut to crack this time around.

The English section, with more choices, was easier to handle.

Expected cut-offs for atleast 1 IIM call.

Quant: 30-32
