Last year the finance minister p chidambaram allocated rs 28,674 crore but in this years latest union budget 2008 2009 he has increased the education budget upto rs 34,400 crore.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan : Rs 13,100 crore
Mid Day Meal scheme Rs 8,000 crore,
education Scheme Rs 4,554 crore.
Chidambaram also declared that three Indian Institutes of Technology IITs will be set up in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan.
16 central universities will also to be opened in 2008-09.
