Tata group and Jagriti Sewa Sansthan have announced the launch of second edition of Tata Jagriti Yatra (TJY) 09, a train journey across India aimed at awakening the entrepreneurial spirit among young people.
The Tata Jagriti Yatra 2008 got enormous response from youngsters as 350 people participated in it and provided the opportunity to meet entrepreneurial role models and institutions. The second edition journey will cover nearly 8000 km in 18 days from December 24, 2009 to January 11, 2010.
TJY hopes to encourage and inspire young people to lead and develop institutions within their own communities first and subsequently on the nation level. For yatris from foreign countries, Tata Jagriti Yatra will provide an unmatchable window to India, its small towns and villages.
To be a part of this unique journey, young people, from India and overseas, in the age group of 20-25 years, can apply online on www.jagritiyatra.com. Four hundred yatris will be selected by a panel of judges on the basis of the demonstration of their entrepreneurial skills. This year special emphasis has been laid on increasing participation from women yatris and role models.
Covering 8000 km across India, the 2009 yatra will halt at Thiruvananthapuram, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Bhubaneshwar, Jamshedpur, Deoria, Delhi, Meethapur and Tiloniya, giving an opportunity to yatris to interact with and visit inspiring and enterprising role models and institutions situated in these places.
Six televised panel discussions will be held at key stops of the journey to discuss social and economic enterprise topics of national relevance these will further help to stimulate ideas and thinking, and give the yatris indications of new directions.
The TJY 2008 had discussions on topics such as- "Yes we can!, from poverty to self-help, making healthcare affordable to every Indian, India's civic challenges, the power of one and unleashing India's entrepreneurs. Panelists included eminent thought leaders like Dr RA Mashelkar, Kishor Chaukar, R Gopalakrishnan, Rajdeep Sardesai, Bindeshwar Pathak and others."
