2010 commonwealth Games security
NEW DELHI : Allaying apprehensions in wake of Pune blast , Lt Governor of Delhi Tejindra Khanna on Monday said adequate security cover will be put in place in the city for the Common wealth Games from October 3 to 14.
During a meeting with an Australian delegation, Khanna, who is looking after the security aspect of the Games in coordination with the Union Home Ministry, said foolproof security will be put in place ahead of the event.
He said the city was fully prepared to ensure adequate protection during the event as all possible measures were being taken by security agencies.
The Australian delegation was led by Speaker of Western Australia Assembly Grant Woodhams.
Over 9,000 athletes from 71 countries besides 100,000 international spectators are expected to visit the national capital during the event.

Schools in Delhi to be closed during Commonwealth Games
The Delhi government has decided to shut down all schools in the capital during the Commonwealth Games 2010 . Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that it was done to avoid traffic congestion.
The Delhi Government has issued an advisory to all private and government schools in Delhi to reschedule their holidays so that all schools remain closed during the period of October 3-14.
While the autumn break will be extended from 8 to 17 days, the summer vacations will be reduced from 61 days to 49 days. The autumn break will be from October 1 to October 17. The rescheduling of the breaks won't affect the working hours ofschools.
"The rescheduling of the breaks will not affect the working hours of schools as working days in 2010-11 would be 218 compared to 215 in 2009-10," she said.

Common wealthgames telecast deal is secret
The government on Friday denied that there were any "slippages" in finalising the contract with British company SIS Live which will broadcast Commonwealth Games and said a formal announcement on the deal with the company would be made soon.
I&B ministry sources said DG Doordarshan Aruna Sharma had assured the ministry's oversight committee (formed for supervising broadcast related work for Commonwealth Games) that all pending issues had been sorted out with SIS and the contract would soon be signed.
"The oversight committee met two days back and DG (Doordarshan) assured that the contract has more or less been finalised and barring some minor issues, it would be soon signed and sealed. We have already sought the written opinion of the solicitor general and the moment the contract is finalised, there would be a formal announcement," the source said.
SIS Live had been finalised from among several bidders by Prasar Bharati (which is the host broadcaster of Commonwealth Games) in October last year. However, the formalities regarding preparing a contract has been held up for several months. The ministry has referred to the obstacles as "minor issues" but matters had come to such a head that the ministry had to take the solicitor general's view.
Ministry sources, however, dismissed concerns over the delay in preparations for Commonwealth Games saying that work was going on as per schedule and there were no slippages. "Only some minor issues are to be addressed, which have been taken care of," sources said.
