Schools in Delhi to be closed during Commonwealth Games

The Delhi government has decided to shut down all schools in the capital during the Commonwealth Games 2010 . Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that it was done to avoid traffic congestion.

The Delhi Government has issued an advisory to all private and government schools in Delhi to reschedule their holidays so that all schools remain closed during the period of October 3-14.

While the autumn break will be extended from 8 to 17 days, the summer vacations will be reduced from 61 days to 49 days. The autumn break will be from October 1 to October 17. The rescheduling of the breaks won't affect the working hours ofschools.

"The rescheduling of the breaks will not affect the working hours of schools as working days in 2010-11 would be 218 compared to 215 in 2009-10," she said.
